Elizabeth was born on 23 Aug, 1862 at Bell Street, North Shields^a1, the second daughter of Richard Hinksman (1833–1911)★, a mariner, and Mary Ann Spencer (1829–1888)★, a general servant. She is Ian's great great grandmother.

Elizabeth was recorded in the 1871 census at Maitland's Quay, Bell Street, North Shields^b1 with her father Richard, now a seaman, mother Mary Ann and two siblings Jane Ann, a servant and Richard, a grocers assistant.

She married Thomas Turner Peak (1859–1931)★, a mason, on 22 Sep, 1879 at the age of seventeen at St Peter's Church, Wallsend^a2 and went on to have nine children with him.
