Jane Palmer (1868–1956)
Jane was born on 15 Oct, 1868 in Newport, Monmouthshire, the only daughter of Daniel Palmer (1843–?), a journeyman shoemaker, and Bridget Dineen (1842–1898)★, a house servant. She is Ian's great great aunt.
Jane was recorded in the 1871 census at Nailers Lane, Riscaa1.
By the time of the 1881 census she was living at Blackvein Row, Lower Machenb1 with her mother Bridget and five siblings Louisa Hemmings (1876–1913)★, Francis Hemmings, Rosearia Hemmings, Helena Hemmings and John Bryan, a haulier.
She married Alfred Harvey, an engine stoker, on 4 Sep, 1888 at The Register Office in Newportc1.
Jane was recorded in the 1891 census at Near Colliery, Mynyddyslwynd1 with her husband Alfred, now a stationary engine driver.
Jane died at the age of eighty-seven on 8 Aug, 1956 in Monmouthshire, Walese1
Comments
On her marriage certificate she stated her father to be George Palmer. However her father Daniel died while she was very young and she never knew him. Having met her descendants and seen her family bible I’m confident of the relationship and believe she was simply unaware of her father’s name.
