Rebecca was born on 8 May, 1841 in Withersdale, Suffolk^a1, the eldest daughter of George Brooks (1819–1861)★, a labourer, and Frances Snowling (1819–1885)★, a servant. She was baptised as an infant on 3 Oct, 1841 in Withersdale^b1. She is Ian's great great grandmother.

Rebecca was recorded in the 1851 census in Mendham, Suffolk^c1 with her father George, now an agricultural labourer, mother Frances and four siblings William, Anna Maria, Sarah Ann and Betsy.

She married William Chambers (1833–1879)★, a labourer, on 5 Feb, 1860 at The Register Office in Hoxne Registration District^a2 and went on to have nine children with him.
