He married Frances Phippen (1785–1867)★ on 3 May, 1812 in Charmouth, Dorset . They had five children.

Phineas died at the age of seventy-five on 31 Jan, 1866 at Axminster Road, Charmouth. His death was attributed to "peritonitis" (inflammation of the abdomen)d2.a1,d2
He was buried four days later in Charmoutha1 He was survived by his wife Frances.
