Philip Brown was born in 1826 in Ratcliff, Middlesex, the fifth surviving son of William Edward Blackbrough (1790–1845)★, a shipwright, and Elizabeth –?– (1791–1833)★. He was baptised as a child on 9 Sep, 1828 in Stepney, Middlesexa1. He is Ian's 4x great grandfather.

He married Margaret Mather Simpson (1825–?)★ on 21 Oct, 1849 at St. Andrew's Church, Bethnal Greenb1 . They had three children.

By the time of the 1851 census he was living at 51.517687, -0.039643, Limehoused1 with his wife Margaret Mather.

Philip died at the age of thirty on 16 Dec, 1856 at 116 Brook Street, Ratcliffb7 and was buried ten days later in Stepneya4
