Carron
Carron is a ship.
The Carron (official number 3584) was a wooden sailing ship built by Alexander Duncan of Alloa, Scotland in 1801. It was constructed at 190 tons, 90 feet long and 25 feet wide with a depth of 17 feet. Originally it was owned by Carron & Company in Grangemouth an ironworks on the banks of the River Carron, one of the largest in Europe. In 1851 the ship was sold to new owners in North Shields and by 1853 it was re-registered in shields under the ownership of E.F. Newton in Blyth with a tonnage of 238 tons. In subsequent years it transported coal between Shields and London. On 31 May 1865 it was lost at sea in the Kattegat, off the coast of Denmark.
