RISCA, SUNDAY. When it is stated that there were a large number of excursionists visiting here today, and that their conduct was not invariably of the character most befitting the day and the occasion, we only report what has been said of the Sunday's outing at every colliery explosion which has taken place of recent years in this neighbourhood. In the morning the weather was fine, and the Newport livery stables were largely drawn upon. On the road from Newport to Risca almost every sort of conveyance could be seen, and filled in some instances certainly with more than the complement of passengers. The trains, too, though running very infrequently on a Sunday, were well patronised. At one public house at Risca, from which two black flags were displayed, an exhibition passing by the name of Pepper's Ghost was exhibited. Near the colliery, there was but little excitement. The funerals, somewhere about 10 in number, took place at the graveyard of the Church, and at different cemeteries attached to the chapels in the neighbourhood. There was no demonstration of any character, and there was not the slightest attempt to have a united funeral. Special reference was made to the occasion in the various churches and chapels, and preachers were engaged during the day near the colliery in similar work. About five o'clock the rain began to descend, and this dispersed the crowd, many of whom, if the truth must be told, repaired to the adjoining public-houses.
