Here are the extracts I made from PRO reference WO12, Pieces 2197 to 2204, in the order in which I took them: PIECE 2203, 25 December 1804 - 24 January 1805: Edward Hinksman, in Captain Piper's Company, June 1804, paid ,1/11/-. John Hinksman in Captain Wood's Company, June 1804. PIECE 2204, 1806 - 1808: Edward Hinksman, promoted to corporal in Captain Piper's Company, 2 Jan 1806. William Hinksman, sarjeant, in Captain Piper's Company, Mar 1806. Edward Hinksman died in Captain Piper's Company, 16 Nov 1808. His widow received 12/10d. The Regiment was in Quelus Camp, Amadora, Lisbon, Portugal, 12 April 1808 and in Colchester, Essex, England, 13 June 1809. There is a hand-written schudule showing: "Return of the Women and Children of the 1st Battalion of the 4th Regiment of Foot who received the allowance to take them home on the Battn's being ordered to Portugal." Among those in receipt of ,1/1/- was Mary Hinksman, of Piper's Company. (Note that the word "Mary" is written in very much darker ink than the rest of the entries, as though written in later as an after -thought or when additional information was to hand.) PIECE 2201, 1803: Edward Hinksman on muster, Jan 1804. Edward Hinksman not in Piper's Company July 1803. Edward Hinksman recruited 28 July 1803, a recruit of Ensign Craig. Edward got ,3/17/6, Craig got 5/- . Sargeant William Hinksman was recruiting at Southampton 20 July to 28 July 1803. Ensign Craig was recruiting at Southampton in July and August 1803. William Hinksman a corporal in Captain Chaplin's Company, Feb 1803 PIECE 2200, 1802: William Hinksman, corporal June 1802. William Hinksman re-attested 21 Jan 1802 in Captain Swinton's Company PIECE 2199, 1801: William Hinksman in Captain Wilson's Company Dec 1801. He was at Tolbury, the Regiment was at Horsham. William Hinksman in Capt Murray's Company as private June 1801 and Dec 1800. PIECE 2198, 1800: William Hinksman in Capt Murray's Company as private 25 Nov 1800 and 25 July 1800. William Hinksman demoted to private from sargeant in Capt Murray's Company 3 June 1800. William Hinksman is sargeant in Capt Murray's Company 24 May 1800. William Hinksman is sargeant in Capt Haley's Company 25 December 1799. PIECE 2197, 1798 - 1799: William Hinksman is sargeant in Capt Healey's Company Nov, Oct, Sept 1799. William Hinksman is sargeant in Capt Lamonte's Company Aug 1799. William Hinksman promoted to corporal in Capt Hinchmeres's Company 15 August 1799. There is a note saying "from Sth Hants". William Hinksman recruited into Regiment (or 1st Battalion) 28 July 1799 as private. There is a note saying "N3 from private Sth Hants".
