On Saturday I received the marriage certificate of Maria Ponsford that, excitingly, shows her father to have been William Hinksman:

Marriage at Holy Trinity in the Registration District of Portsea Island, district of Parish of Portsea, Southampton, 1860, no. 298. Married 16 Oct 1860; Richard Lucas, age 58, condition Widower, occupation Gardener, residence Mary Street, Halton Path and Maria Ponsford, age 49, condition Widow, residence Mary Street, Halton Path; groom’s father John Lucas, Gardener; bride’s father William Hinksman, Sergeant; married by according to the rites of the Established Church; groom signed name, bride signed name; witnesses Charles McCarron (signed), Sarah Wordley (signed)1

I’m now completly sure that this is William’s daughter born in 1810 in Colchester!
