We found some wills for various Roses in Oxfordshire on FindMyPast and they have contained a treasure trove of information. We went through each one and extracted the biographical details:

  • All household goods and furniture to be shared equally between nephew Joseph Gilkes and Thomas Creek of Steeple Aston, gentleman, The Executors

Codicil

  • if Edmund, Francis, Elizabeth, Hannah or Mary Creek to die during his lifetime, their share to pass to their brother Mr Thomas Creek of Steeple Aston

This last will was particularly exciting since it proved the link between the Rose, Gilkes and Rymell families. We had previously had some doubt about the connection since there were two Mary Roses marrying within months of one another in North Aston. This will proves that William Gilkes married the daughter of Joseph Rose, miller of North Aston. Thomas, the testator, was her brother.

It also gave us many new names to add to the family tree.
